A Community Of Love

What should people see when they look at the church?

In John 13:34–35, Jesus gives His followers a defining characteristic: love.

But He doesn't simply tell us to love one another. He gives us the standard:

“Just as I have loved you.”

In Week 2 of The Church: Defined, Pastor Tony Stephens explores what it means for the church to become a community shaped by the love of Jesus.

In this message:

• Love Has a Standard—Jesus

• Love Refuses to Let Division Win

• Love Makes Jesus Visible

Christian love is more than being friendly. It serves when serving costs something. It forgives when we've actually been hurt. It chooses unity over pride, pursues holiness and truth, and puts the needs of others ahead of our own.

And Jesus says that when His people love this way, the world notices.

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” —John 13:35, CSB

The question isn't simply whether we say we love Jesus.

Can people see Jesus in the way we love one another?
